Table Manners King MalleryOK, so Table Manners is still a few weeks away from its release date of August 4 (a Tuesday, in case you were wondering), but in the publishing world that is only a nanosecond away (I guess if we want to get all metaphysical about things, EVERYTHING is really only a nanosecond away, but we’ll save that discussion for another day).

As I’ve mentioned (repeatedly, I’m afraid), Table Manners sold book club rights to Doubleday, Literary Guild, Rhapsody, and Book of the Month book clubs. Now I’ve learned that we are going to do a nice little/big mailing to book clubs across the country. We’re also going to be coordinating call-ins with the author (that’s me!) so aside from possibly needing to get a decent land line phone or upgrading my computer so I can use Skype without my system crawling to a stop, I’m feeling very warm and fuzzy about this fall. And that’s not just because it’s the prelude to a slew of fabulous holidays (and holiday foods–I can taste the turkey and gravy already!), but because we’ll have an opportunity to share Table Manners with as many people as possible.

Oh, and a fabulous writer and freelancer, Kim Steutermann Rogers, writes a blog for Outrigger Hawaii, among many other things. She did a lovely post on summer reading with Hawaii-themed novels for your TBR pile: http://www.outriggerhawaii.com/blog_hawaii_summer_reading_list.aspx. And, I just learned, she has a coconut labyrinth at home. I want pictures, and I want her to make me one!

I am finishing up my fourth novel which I am VERY excited to share with you once it’s ready. I’m also gearing up for a trip to Washington and California to see family and will have a few book signings along the way. And I’m giving away a galley of Table Manners this month (subscribers to my newsletters are automatically entered, or you can leave a comment on a recent post to be entered or score an extra entry) with whatever author/Hawaii goodies I have on hand.

And, I’m curious–what kind of author goodies (promotional items) do you enjoy the most?

Congrats on all your good news & fun events coming up. I’ll be honest in saying that I don’t really want/need much from the author. I’ve only received one book from an author directly, and she sent me a short, typed form letter with a jotted note at the bottom, and a bookmark. Sounds silly, but that little personal note was thrilling to me. I so respect what authors do, that communicating with them in some way, is really rewarding.

Good luck with all that you have coming up. I’m actually on a flight back to Oahu this afternoon. I can’t wait to get back!

Aloha Becky–That’s so good to know. I’m big into personal notes, too–written, not mass produced–so I’m going to mention this to my publisher and see if there’s a way that I can personalize add my hello instead of a digitized John Hancock.

I can’t wait for Table Manners! I pre-ordered on B&N. I wish I lived in California (I’m across the country in Florida) so I could go to your book signings–I’d love a signed copy! Have a great time and keep writing–I love your books!

Signed books are always welcomed. If something extra is added, something that relates to the theme of the book or to the authors life /region is always nice. I agree with Becky, something personal means a lot.
Congratulations on the release of TABLE MANNERS . Am looking forward to seeing what book 4 will be. Have a great summer!

Patricia, thank you so much for chiming in–okay, I’m sold! I am ordering some personal stationary as we speak! ;-) And book 4 … well, let’s just say that it will be worth the wait! Hugs, Mia

Hi Deb–Nebraska is actually on my list of states to go to if we ever do a multi-state tour, so who knows?! Would love to meet you then if I do! Hugs, Mia
