Dream Job – Fact vs. Fiction

So here it is … the cover of my book, GOOD THINGS: A Novel. I happen to have the file handy because I am supposed to be working on the final edits for the manuscript, which is due to be published in early ‘07 by Berkley Books (Penguin USA). I have some major changes to do, whole love scenes that need to be moved and re-worked, and my editor insists that my main character get her hair and nails done properly instead of letting her best friend and gay roommate do them for her. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. So I thought sampling different themes and backgrounds for my blog would be a much better use of my time.
Never mind that my husband will be home in less than two hours with the kids, one who will need to be nursed since he’s just shy of five months, and the other who will be on the brink of a nervous breakdown after five hours of summer arts camp and swimming lessons. I won’t even get into the other details of my life, which is that I decided to homeschool my first grader and that my husband and I own a golf business in Hawaii that keeps us busy 24/7, 365 days a year. Yes, I am crazy. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment. And did I happen to mention that he has a book coming out next year as well?
And no, I have no idea what to make for lunch or dinner. And no, I still haven’t put in my contacts. And no, I am not completely anxious and neurotic about my father’s once-a-year visit for three days when he meets my son for the first time. My daughter and I will have to have a nervous breakdown together for me to get through that one. What, me worry?
Mothers-wives-business owners-writers-homeschoolers-women who do too much unite! We need all the help we can get.
