Book Gifts Just in Time for the Holidays

Books are great gifts. Yes, I’m biased. Terribly so. But reading is what got me into writing, and it is the one thing I want my eight year old daughter to do a lot of. READ. I think it opens doors, whole worlds even, and keeps our brains active and creative. Plus, I’ve noticed that everyone is being thoughtful about their holiday purchases this year. So why not give something that’s good for you (and your brain), is entertaining, and is easy to wrap (think: nice, neat corners)?

At amazon.com, my first novel and national bestseller, GOOD THINGS, is available at the bargain price of $4.49. $4.49! Talk about a good deal just in time for the holidays. You’ll have $0.51 left over for a cup of coffee or tea (or a bar of chocolate!)–all fabulous accompaniments to the book.

But don’t let me stop you from buying a copy of SWEET LIFE. I just learned of two reviews today, one from the Chico Enterprise-Record, which called it “a sweet story … seasoned to perfection.” The other is from Hawaiian Edible Islands, which called SWEET LIFE “fascinating for fans and readers everywhere.” Buy both books at amazon.com for $15.69, or visit your local bookseller or Barnes & Noble for even more choices. My fellow authors at The Debutante Ball all have wonderful books out that you might want to add to your shopping list, too!

To jazz up a book gift, include any of the following:

  • book light
  • reusable book bag (bookstores sell branded bags, as do libraries)
  • bookmark (homemade or store-bought)
  • bookweights (if you love to read in the windy outdoors)
  • something edible to go with it (box of tea, bag of coffee beans, chocolate, fresh bread or pastries, even gum)
  • small notebook (I love Moleskines but they can be pricey) and pen
  • set of postcards (add the stamps if you’re feeling flush!)
  • reading glasses and/or fun eyeglass beaded chain
  • lap desk (great for in bed or in the car
  • fun bookends for their bookshelf
  • book stands or book holders
  • book plates (buy them in stationary stores or make your own)

Happy Holidays!
