"It is life near the bone where it is sweetest." Henry David Thoreau
NEWS FLASH!
SWEET LIFE hits bookshelves
everywhere on September 2, 2008!
SWEET LIFE is a book close to my heart, because it
takes place on the Big Island of Hawaii where I live. I also love this
book because it looks at a family in crisis, at a couple whose marriage
is put to the test and at a mother who is struggling to be a good parent
while discovering what that really means to her.
At first glance, Marissa and Paul seem to
live the charmed life, but it soon becomes clear that isn't the
case. I've discovered that things are rarely so black and white,
no matter how it looks on the outside. But I'm encouraged by the
myriad of ways in which life gives us another opportunity to
deepen our experience with ourselves and others. And if through
the tears we can find the humor in it, too, then all the better
(a little hint for those of you who have yet to read the book:
snoring cows. 'Nuff said).
Like GOOD THINGS, this book includes some
wonderful recipes in the back that tie into the story. I was
fortunate enough to have some of Hawaii's top chefs and foodies
share their favorite recipes, and of course I have included some
of my own, too. Host a book club luau to talk about the book and
I'll send some goodies your way! And don't forget to enter my
