Who Has Time to Eat Chocolate with All That Writing Going On?!

What’s so funny is that this picture is of TWO chocolate-covered macadmia nuts, when in truth I have eaten about, oh, TWENTY in the past half hour. Maybe 21. The point is, I’m actually VERY busy writing right now, and I’m only eating this chocolate because, well, it’s there.
Yes, I bought adorable packages of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts to send out as a promo for my book, but it appears that having them in the same office as me was not a good idea. I already did the 2oz foil bags of 100% organic Kona coffee (for more contests, visit my website for details and many chances to win) and Hawaiian-print notecards, but you can’t devour those mindlessly like you can chocolate.
I know I’m preaching to the choir if I wax on about the healing properties of chocolate (It cures cancer! It’s an anti-depressant! It’s better than leafy green vegetables!), but it really does make me feel better. At least it doesn’t make me feel worse, especially since I actually am finding it very hard to write right now (despite telling my agent and editor that I’m writing like a banshee this very moment), and that feels pretty lousy. So who needs those other punishing foods to make it worse?
Maybe I’m in denial, but that’s another healing property of chocolate – convenient short-term memory loss. What novel? No, I did not just eat 21 pieces of chocolate!
Writers, I want to hear from you — what is your best edible form of procrastination?

White bread. I have a thing for white bread, especially when I’m stressed out. If I need to keep my hands busy, I make little dough people … and then eat them. Makes me feel like I have some sort of control over things!

I eat cans of Pringle’s potato chips for lunch. I tell myself it’s OK, one can as a substitute for a regular meal is OK?? Because who has time to COOK when you’re busy writing??
I like your strategy of sending out chocolates with your book! What kind of book is it and what’s the title?

I write women’s mainstream fiction and my debut novel, GOOD THINGS, is due out in February 2007. It’s being published by Berkley Books (Penguin USA).
Yes, I figure if chocolate works for me, it’ll probably work for others, too! My only problem is keeping it cool so it’s not a mess by the time it arrives at its destination. But I’m a Pringles junkie, too – anything that stacks so neatly can’t be bad, right?
SF used to be my old stomping grounds – and congrats on all the awesome kudos for your writing, I’m impressed!
